In the past 12 months, we’ve continued to improve our organisational performance to become a national and international leader in sustainability; In June 2013, Teachers Mutual Bank won the ‘Best Bank in Socially Responsible Performance category’ in the prestigious Asia-Pacific Banking and Finance Award, beating Westpac and NAB. In April 2013, we leapt up the international CSR ladder, jumping from bronze to Gold status in the annual Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index published in the Financial Times in London. As a financial services organisation with a remote service model and mainly online bank, our direct environmental impacts are relatively low in relation to other sectors. However, we believe we still have a responsibility to use resources wisely in order not to affect the ability of future generations to meet their needs. We are focused on further reducing our greenhouse footprint and seeking to purchase carbon offsets of around 2,500 tonnes pa. The credibility and delivery guarantee of the offsets is important.
